This week is Mental Illness Awareness Week, and a major player in mental health today is the problem of addiction. The exact definition of that term, however, remains controversial. Millions of people are afflicted with compulsions that run the gamut, and although many are serious disorders, can we really equate the gluttonous "diseases" of the privileged with the neurobiological dependence caused by hard drugs?
In this rant, Science in Seconds takes a critical look.
